By Staff writers in Media News on
SBS has announced that it is evolving its Arabic and Mandarin news offerings from linear bulletins to short-form digital video news packages.  Mandi Wicks, Director of SBS News and Current Affairs, explained that the ‘increasing demand for timely and regular video news updates’ drives the shift to digital platforms. “SBS is very proud of our weekday nightly Arabic and Mandarin news bulletins which have been running for over two years. She noted that this evolution will enable SBS to deliver higher quality, factual digital news coverage around the clock, including on-location reporting across Australia. Nine to slash up to 200 jobs amid economic downturn

By Pragadish Kirubakaran in Media News on
Nine has announced plans to cut up to 200 roles due to a weak advertising market and the expiration of a revenue deal with Meta, B&T reported.  Last financial year, Nine improved operational efficiency, but recent market events have prompted a review of key business areas for potential savings. Measures announced today will affect the Publishing division, resulting in job losses.  CEO Mike Sneesby informed staff that although Nine is in a stronger position than its rivals, the economic challenges and lost revenue necessitate significant cost savings. “Nine is not immune to the economic headwinds impacting many businesses globally. To continue investing in digital growth, we must manage costs responsibly through the cycle,” Sneesby said. The planned cuts represent 4 per cent of Nine’s workforce, with the Publishing division losing between 70 to 90 roles, including some already vacant. The News and Current Affairs division will lose 38 roles, 12 of which are vacant.
