After 24 years, Chennai Press Club reclaims its voice and vision

After decades in the shadows, the Chennai Press Club has re-emerged as a symbol of journalistic unity and perseverance. Reviving its original mandate of welfare and representation, the club recently held its first official election in over two decades--marking a significant moment for the media community in Tamil Nadu.
Founded in 1970 by former Union Minister and DMK leader Murasoli Maran, the club had long faded from active public and institutional life. It wasn’t until December 14, 2024, that a free and fair election--backed by a renewed wave of support from journalists, civil society and media veterans brought it back into focus.
