Radio National farewells Phillip Adams

Phillip Adams will host Late Night Live on Radio National for the final time tonight after a remarkable 33-year tenure. Adams was honoured at a special event at ABC Ultimo yesterday.  Adams began hosting Late Night Live in 1991, interviewing thousands of guests, including notable figures such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Henry Kissinger, and Noam Chomsky. As a farewell, Late Night Live regular guest Laura Tingle interviewed Adams about his 33 years on Radio National. This interview will air tonight as a special final program. David Marr has been announced as the new host of Late Night Live, starting on Monday, July 15.  

CRA names new CEO

Commercial Radio and Audio (CRA) Chairman and ARN CEO Ciaran David has announced the appointment of Lizzie Young as the group’s new CEO.  She was most recently the CEO of APAC and global growth officer at WeAre8.  Young was most recently the managing director of local markets, group marketing, and commercial partnerships at Nine, where she has served for over a decade. With a career spanning 25 years and experience across multiple global markets, Young has worked on all media platforms in roles traversing commercial, editorial content and operations.  She spent over a decade in the audio industry, including 7 years at GWR Radio/GCap (now Global Radio) in the UK and 4 years at SCA before joining Nine.  Young will commence her role at CRA on August 7, 2024.

Hit Network confirms three new appointments at Fox FM

The Hit Network has announced three key appointments to Fox FM, further strengthening the station's content team in Melbourne. Amanda Lee, Head of Hit Metro Content and Fox Content Director, introduced Brad Wood, Gemma Prendergast, and Emily Allen as the latest additions. Veteran journalist and former SMH editor Judith Whelan passes away

Judith Whelan, a prominent journalist and former editor of the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH), passed away on Wednesday, June 26, at the age of 63 after being diagnosed with cancer. Whelan, who also served as an ABC executive, joined the national broadcaster in 2016 after a distinguished career in journalism. Whelan made history as one of only three female editors of the SMH. She also spent seven years leading the Good Weekend magazine. At the ABC, she initially held the position of director, Regional and Local, before becoming the editorial director in 2022. Her career also included stints as a foreign correspondent in the Pacific and Europe, and she was a Walkley-nominated news and feature writer.
