India TV editor-in-chief Rajat Sharma denies accusations of using abusive language on air

Senior journalist and India TV editor-in-chief Rajat Sharma has denied accusations of using abusive language on air.     The statement was released after Congress national spokesperson Ragini Nayak accused Rajat Sharma of using obscene language during a live television broadcast.    The journalist’s representatives have, however, called these claims completely false and without any foundation describing them as ‘malicious and defamatory’. "We are currently seeking legal advice on how to move forward," the statement claimed adding that the claims were based on imaginary and non-existent incidents and were inherently defamatory. “We reserve the right to pursue further legal action."

Digital publishers seek revenue-sharing mechanism with tech giants

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) had convened a meeting with online news publishers to discuss a revenue-sharing mechanism with major tech firms that aggregate their news content.   Chaired by I&B Secretary Sanjay Jaju, the meeting included representatives from the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) and other government bodies such as the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), a release stated. The DNPA has petitioned the government to establish a revenue-sharing framework with tech companies like Meta and Google, which aggregate and distribute content created by publishers, generating revenue from this content.  DNPA, representing India's top 18 news publishers, argues that Big Tech's "unfair" practices have negatively impacted the business of news publishers.  They have been in continuous discussions with MeitY to push for amendments to existing IT rules to introduce a bargaining

MIB cautions TV channels against live coverage of anti-terror operations

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has issued a stern warning to private news channels, advising them to refrain from broadcasting live anti-terrorist operations conducted by security forces. This advisory comes in the wake of extensive coverage of the ongoing anti-terrorist operations in the Kathua and Doda districts of Jammu on June 11 and 12. In its statement accessed by Influencing India, the Ministry reiterated the importance of complying with Rule 6(1) (p) of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021. This rule imposes restrictions on live coverage of anti-terrorist operations. According to the MIB, media coverage during such operations should be limited to “periodic briefings by an officer designated by the appropriate government until the operation concludes.”
