New draft of Broadcast Services Bill invokes fierce criticism from Oppn
By Staff Writer in Media News on Wednesday, 31st July 2024 at 1:51amThe second draft of the Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill 2023 has sparked significant concern among broadcasters in India, aiming to replace the Cable Television Networks Act of 1995. The Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) has raised transparency issues, demanding that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) disclose the revised Bill.
Jawhar Sircar, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and former Prasar Bharati CEO accused the government of secretly sharing the “Final Bill” with big business houses and interest groups without presenting it to the Parliament. He called the Minister’s claim that the Bill is still in the drafting stage, “misleading.”
