Today’s Ten: Third quarter results remain modest, private sector investments dip as FM readies Budget

By Pradeep Damodaran, Pragadish Kirubakaran in Media News on
With domestic demand seen waning amid a spike in inflation and input costs, investment plans by India’s private sector took a notable hit, falling 1.4 per cent in the October-December 2024 quarter (Q3) after a fleeting recovery in the second quarter (Q2) of 2024-25. The initial trend in the October-December results season shows single-digit growth in aggregate revenue and net profit for the second consecutive quarter. Hot off the Press Though private investments dipped, the government capex plans registered a sharp growth, lifting overall fresh investments in the economy by 9.9 per cent in Q3 to Rs 11.46 lakh crore from an updated tally of Rs 10.43 lakh crore recorded in Q2. This rise was led by a 34.6 per cent spike in fresh investments by State governments over Q2 levels, almost thrice the 11.8 per cent growth in new outlays announced by the Union government, reported Vikas Dhoot for The Hindu. India's GDP growth had already slowed to a seven-quarter low of 5.4 per cent in

Mugdha Kapoor: The storyteller behind the headlines

By Staff Writer in Media News on
In an industry where staying ahead of the curve requires relentless passion and an unwavering commitment to storytelling, Mugdha Kapoor, assistant editor at HT City, exemplifies what it means to be a journalist in the modern age. With over a decade of experience across television, digital and print media, Mugdha has carved a niche for herself as a sharp observer of India’s ever-evolving entertainment landscape.  From her earliest days, Mugdha’s fascination with journalism was evident. “I was interested in the news from a young age. In my teens, I would spend hours watching news channels on TV and was drawn to the impact that journalism had on the world around us,” she recalls while speaking to Influencing India.   This curiosity translated into action when she pursued journalism academically, completing a bachelor’s and master’s degree in the field before beginning her career at Asian News International (ANI), where she honed her skills as a reporter and anchor.

By Staff Writers in Media News on
Unmade's Cat McGinn, Tim Burrowes, Belinda Cusack and Cliver Prosser.   Tim Burrowes is buying back the farm - or at least part of it. Just before midday on Monday, Burrowes' Unmade dropped an “unscheduled update” to announce that a new company called Mumbrella Media - majority owned by The Intermedia Group, but with Burrowes as a shareholder - would take ownership of the Mumbrella brand from Diversified Communications. The new company would bring together Mumbrella and Unmade under the same roof. Burrowes sold Mumbrella to Diversified Communications in 2017, having launched Mumbrella as a start-up back in 2008. He founded Unmade, after departing Diversified in 2020. Burrowes wrote: “All of the Unmade team are coming over, along with any of the Mumbrella team who wish to do so (which I hope is all of them; they only heard the news a few minutes ago). I’ll be Mumbrella Media’s publisher and managing director. He described Mumbrella and Unmade as “twins, albeit n

Wrap-Up: Joint-Support Model Powering CES 2025

By Will McLennan in Media News on
This year’s CES delivered a huge amount of local tech coverage which, according to EFTM’s Trevor Long, was largely thanks to significant vendor support of attending Aussie media.  “I think it was great to see support from the industry for the media that were on the ground because, without the support, you can't do it,” Long said. “I’m pleased and proud to say we've pushed the whole industry to a method to a joint support model. Even the biggest journalists from the biggest mastheads were supported by multiple companies, which is good because it means you get a little bit more fairness in the reporting, which is awesome.” Long described his experience of CES as “pretty good” but felt something was missing from the event. He also described CES as a battle between big and smaller brands.  “It was a great event. However, I felt as if there wasn't the crazy cool stuff that we often have. The big companies probably lacked a bit of punch as well. However, it was a

Gen Z challenges healthcare stereotypes: The pursuit of authentic, in-person care

By Staff Writer in Media News on
A global study by communications firm Burson revealed that Gen Z is breaking stereotypes, favouring in-person healthcare over digital options while navigating a system that often falls short of their needs. The findings show a generation seeking balance, control and genuine connections in their healthcare experiences. The report, “Gen Z: Calling for Healthcare Connection and Change,” surveyed 5,000 Gen Z adults (18-27) across 10 countries, offering a comprehensive look at this cohort’s health priorities. Despite being labelled “digital natives,” more than 60 per cent of respondents prioritise face-to-face visits over telehealth, driven by scepticism toward online health information. Alarmingly, eight in 10 report encountering misleading health content online. These frustrations echo broader challenges faced by a generation balancing physical and mental health concerns, with 57 percent prioritising mental well-being alongside 56 per cent focusing on physical health.
