Image source: FPJ   A 46-year-old journalist attached to a leading Tamil daily in Coimbatore was arrested on May 26, 2026, in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a minor girl.  The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the girl’s parents at the All Women Police Station, Coimbatore South. According to The Hindu, the accused, a native of Tenkasi, was arrested from his native place on Tuesday. According to police sources, the accused had been living alone at his Coimbatore residence while his wife was at her native place for postnatal care. They allege that he used his acquaintance with the girl’s family to lure the minor to his residence last week and sexually assaulted her. The girl escaped and informed her parents, who then approached the police. The Chennai Press Club (CPC) has strongly condemned the police for allegedly filing false cases against Thiruthani‑based Malaimurasu reporter Vinothkumar and attempting to imprison him. According to the CPC, Vinothkumar had gone to a quarry near Thiruthani to report on alleged illegal soil excavation beyond permitted limits after receiving public inputs. During reporting, former AIADMK panchayat union president Ponnusamy allegedly obstructed him, seized and smashed his mobile phone, verbally abused him, and attempted to assault him.
