PCI reports 468 paid news cases in four years
By Staff Writer in Media News on Friday, 14th March 2025 at 3:27pmThe Press Council of India (PCI) has recorded 468 complaints related to paid news over the past four years, with a sharp increase in 2024-25, according to data accessed by Influencing India.
In 2024-25 alone, PCI received 290 complaints, the highest number of paid news cases in print media to date. Rajasthan accounted for 111 of these cases. The figures mark a significant surge from previous years--74 cases in 2021-22, 76 in 2022-23, and 28 in 2023-24.
Responding to an unstarred question from BJP MP Chandra Prakash Joshi, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L Murugan stated that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has established mechanisms at national, state, and district levels to address paid news complaints.
