New rules limit TRAI chief eligibility to government secretaries
By Staff Writer in Media News on Tuesday, 09th July 2024 at 4:50pmThe government has notified its rules under the Telecommunication Act that restrict eligibility for the position of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)chairman to current or former secretaries of the government or officials with equivalent rank.
According to an official statement released on July 5, the new criteria for appointment as Chairperson and Members of TRAI have been operational since June 26, with some rules taking effect from July 5, PTI reported. These updates are part of Section 59(b) of the Act, which amends Section 4 of the TRAI Act 1997.
