By Staff Writer in Media News on Friday, 08th November 2024 at 5:46pm
Bitten by the writing bug at a very young age, Chandrajit Mitra has transformed his passion for writing into a full-time profession, breaking down complex national/international developments into simple, understandable stories for his audience.
1)How did you get started in journalism?
Journalism wasn't something that I wanted to do, but I still did it right from my childhood. Perhaps the idea was to write to express. I began to write for the student paper, The Telegraph in Schools, or TTIS about fun stuff like art, culture, movies, and movie reviews. Perhaps that gave me the drive to pursue higher studies in journalism, and take this further as a profession.
2) Can you describe your work and the stories your team most commonly works on?
I am a desk guy, as it is known in our world. We write and edit stories, and make them presentable for readers. We must ensure that everything that people want to read about and know is reflected on our platform. I handle political
Today’s Ten: Diplomatic row with Canada continues to worsen
By Pradeep Damodaran in Media News on Friday, 08th November 2024 at 4:22pm
Bilateral ties between New Delhi and Ottawa plunged to a new low after Canada blocked an Australian news outlet which aired a press conference by external affairs minister S Jaishankar and his Australian counterpart Penny Wong in Canberra where he made some strong remarks on the India-Canada standoff.
Stating it was “surprised” over the “strange” Canadian move, the Ministry of External Affairs said the action “yet again highlights the hypocrisy of Canada towards freedom of speech”, reported Divya A for The Indian Express.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a media briefing Thursday that social media handles and pages of this particular publication, which he described as an important diaspora outlet, had been blocked and were no longer available for viewers in Canada. “This happened just a few hours after this outlet carried a press conference of the external affairs minister along with his (Australian) counterpart Penny Wong,” Jaiswal said.

By Will McLennan, Phil Sim in Media News on Friday, 08th November 2024 at 8:20am
Trevor Long’s EFTM launched its annual technology awards and the inaugural print edition at an event in Sydney last night.
Long showcased the 52-page magazine, which details the winners of 49 awards, covering consumer tech products like phones, laptops, headphones, televisions, and various car categories. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N won the Best of the Best Award, having also been adjudged Best Sportscar, while JBL’s Neo drone won Best Tech.
One aspect of the Awards that Long stressed, which is a point of departure from other awards, is that winners didn’t need to be released in 2024.
“It’s a big decision I made at the start of this process - these awards are not the best things that were released this year; these are just the best things.”
For example, EFTM awarded a pair of four-year-old Sony headphones as the best over-ear headphones because while subsequent models have been released, Long felt the new iterations weren’t any better, while the older model could be found
