Manipur-based veteran journalist’s home attacked twice in four months

By Pradeep Damodaran in Media News on
For the second time in four months, Manipur-based veteran journalist Yambem Laba’s place of residence has been attacked by militants. In the most recent incident that took place early September 11, armed militants arrived outside his home at around 3 am and fired ten rounds at Laba’s home before vanishing into the darkness. Laba is a special representative with The Statesman and a former acting president of the Manipur Human Rights Commission. He is also president of a political party, Good Governance Party, formed in Imphal over two months ago. Regarding the attack on his home, Laba believes that his most recent statements criticising Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh might not have been liked by some of his supporters, which could have led to the attack. "I think this is a group of boys who call themselves as Biren's volunteers, you see... And they are not (part of) any of the established underground groups of men. They are armed and they came and fired at my place. The

Today’s Ten: Khalistan row reignites as Pannu files lawsuit against India in US

By Pragadish Kirubakaran in Media News on
The lawsuit filed by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, leader of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has accused the Indian government of an assassination plot against him, which India dismisses as “unwarranted” and politically motivated. SFJ, listed as a terror outfit in India, has long campaigned for the creation of 'Khalistan', a separate Sikh state. India views SFJ’s actions as secessionist and harmful to its sovereignty. Media coverage on the development varied in its emphasis: The Times of India highlighted India’s strong rejection of his claims, while The Hindu and Dipanjan Roy Chaudhury of the Economic Times detailed Pannun’s accusations and SFJ’s contentious role in causing disruption and instigating violence in the country over the years. Each publication framed the legal confrontation through different lenses—whether focusing on India’s diplomatic response or the broader implications of SFJ’s global activism. Tech Influencer: Tech Man Pat (Part 1)

By Will McLennan & Phil Sim in Media News on
Building a YouTube channel takes persistence. So when Australian tech Youtuber Pat Lazarz posts his 1000th video in the next week or so after almost a decade of running his channel Tech Man Pat, he will richly deserve his 26,500 subscribers. Lazarz started his channel in 2015 with no real ambitions. He had a fierce interest in computers so he was buying various parts and kit. He noticed that people on Youtube were building channels based on talking about the tech they had bought, so he figured he’d give it a crack. “It just felt like, oh this will be fun. I got a camera from a friend and I filmed myself, and the first time I saw it, I was like, this is so cool.” “And then a week later, I was like, this is terrible and so ever since then… it’s just been this constant of maybe I can do better, maybe I can try something new”. That desire to keep improving and experimenting eventually paid dividends. “I reviewed these Sony headphones; I went and bought them because
