Philip Brady retires after seven decades in radio and television

Philip Brady announced his retirement on air during his Remember When show on Sunday night bringing a closure to a remarkable seven-decade career in radio and television. “I’ve been at 3AW since time began, but it’s time to move on and give the younger guys a go,” Brady said in a pre-recorded message. Reflecting on his career, he added, “After 67 years in the business, I’m quitting, and I’m very sad to be leaving.” Brady’s career began in 1958 at GTV9, where he became a popular star on the variety show In Melbourne Tonight and hosted various game shows in the ’60s. He joined 3AW in 1971, worked at several other stations over the years, and returned to 3AW in 1990 to co-host Remember When and later the weeknight show Nightline. For many, the COVID pandemic was a time of panic and uncertainty and for freelance science journalist Bianca Nogrady it was a very busy time indeed but she says reporting on the pandemic was a career highlight.  “I'm still being reminded of how much I learned despite being a science journalist for over 15 years at that point.
