Hindi journalism enters its third century embracing fresh challenges

As Hindi journalism entered its third century on May 30, celebrations across the country honoured its rich legacy while also sparking conversations about the challenges shaping its future.
The milestone marks 200 years since the publication of Udanta Martand in Calcutta in 1826 by Pt. Jugal Kishore Shukla. Meaning "Rising Sun", the weekly newspaper carried the motto "Hindustaniyon ke hit ke het" and is regarded as the foundation of Hindi journalism in India.
For many journalists, the bicentenary was not only a moment of reflection but also an opportunity to discuss the future of Hindi media.
