Ray Lougheed, beloved announcer at 3YB FM Warrnambool, is retiring after 37 years of hosting the Down Memory Lane show, which airs Sundays from 9 PM to midnight radio info reported. His final broadcast will be on October 13. Down Memory Lane began 40 years ago, with Ray taking over three years later. He has spent over six decades in the radio industry, starting his career in 1962 at 3KZ as a turntable operator. Ray moved to Warrnambool in 1981, working in the Ambulance Service before casually announcing at 3YB in 1982. He expanded Down Memory Lane from one hour to its current three-hour format. Reflecting on his career, he noted the strong community connection fostered through listener interactions, including sending “cheerios” to fans. He also thanked Steve Welsh, a longtime contributor to the program. For his final show, Ray plans to play a collection of his favorite tracks from the 60s and 70s, along with classic Frank Sinatra.

Smart Company’s The Pitch competition continues to grow, attracting hundreds of aspiring start-ups who want to follow in the footsteps of past winners that have gone on to raise millions in capital. The Pitch November will close next week (October 18) and offers $10,000 in prizes from sponsor Dell Technologies.  Editor-in-Chief Simon Crerar says the company’s The Pitch competition allows early-stage startups to present their ideas, and get feedback from investors and VCs. “[The Pitch] is a pipeline and an opportunity for early-stage startups to pitch to a room of peers and potential investors and entrepreneurs”, Crerar says. The competition has run three to four times a year since the beginning of last year and sees 200 to 250 startups present a three-page slide deck. ABC general counsel Ingrid Silver has announced her departure after more than three years in the role, according to an ABC press release.  Silver, who joined in September 2021, brought over 25 years of expertise in digital media, broadcasting, and regulatory law. ABC managing director David Anderson praised her leadership and contributions during a challenging period, thanking her for her service. The ABC will soon begin the search for her successor.
