By Pradeep Damodaran, Pragadish Kirubakaran and Neeraja Gopalakrishnan in Media News on Friday, 07th February 2025 at 3:52pm
The tussle between states ruled by Opposition and Governors is as old as our Constitution and democracy. But the TN Guv RN Ravi seems to have taken it a bit too far stifling the democratic process along the way. At least 12 Bills passed by the TN government have been pending for over three years including several crucial ones. The prominence given to this regional story in all major national newspapers indicates the importance given to the SC directive, and rightfully so.
The Supreme Court on Thursday (February 6, 2025) asked what Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi found so “gross” about the 12 Bills the State government sent him for assent that they were kept pending for over three years, reported Krishnadas Rajagopal for The Hindu.
A Bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan recapped the trajectory of 12 Bills, mostly to do with higher education and the appointment process of vice-chancellors in State Universities, for the benefit of the Governor, whose office was repre

Toxicity at work has become an increasingly alarming concern across industries with many professionals using social media to vent out about this pervasive issue. Newsrooms have been no exception.
A few weeks ago, Laasya Shekhar, an independent journalist, shared a post recounting challenges she encountered in newsrooms over the years.
“In legacy media, the more you work, the more you are deemed fit to be a journalist,” she said, “I had editors who slept for less than four hours and expected their reporters to do the same and editors who asked for more than three or four copies a day (specials included).”
Describing this constant pressure as “overwhelming,” Shekhar notes, “no one even greets you at the office or in online meetings. It’s always about stories.”
Many reporters have told her that they were denied PF for quitting their jobs, did not get paid regularly and, more importantly, faced workplace harassment
