Munsif English Daily relaunched in Hyderabad, with Congress Party Karwan Assembly constituency in-charge Usman Bin Mohammed Al Hajri congratulating Mohammed Abdul Jaleel, Editor-in-Chief of the Munsif Group of Publications, on the occasion. Al Hajri felicitated Abdul Jaleel with a shawl and bouquet and extended his wishes for the newspaper’s continued growth and success. Several Congress leaders and workers were also present. The meeting also recalled the contribution of the late Dr. Khan Latif Mohammed Khan to Hyderabad’s journalistic history and his association with Munsif Urdu. Those present highlighted his commitment to factual reporting, public awareness and responsible journalism. The English edition was described as a continuation of Munsif’s journalistic legacy, aimed at taking its values and public-oriented approach to a wider readership.    

A journalist in Jehanabad, Bihar, was allegedly abused, threatened with death, and asked to pay Rs 2 lakh after raising questions about the use of a private vehicle for official duties. According to Dainik Bhaskar, journalist Ajit Kumar Dutta, who has reported from Jehanabad for national newspapers and channels for over 15 years, confronted the Jeevika in-charge (administrative official) of Ghoshi block regarding the use of a Scorpio with a private registration number for government work. Following this, the vehicle’s driver, Sikandar Kumar, allegedly called Dutta, hurled abuses, and issued death threats. The journalist further claimed that Kumar called again the next day, demanding 2 lakh and warning of consequences if the vehicle was harmed. Police have registered a case at the Jehanabad City Police Station based on Dutta’s complaint and have launched an investigation into the matter.  

Senior journalist Rafiqul Rahman, affectionately known as Bhaiti Rahman, passed away on Tuesday afternoon at the Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh. He was 53. Rahman had been a prominent voice in Nazira’s media landscape for nearly three decades, reporting extensively across the co‑district. He served as Vice‑President of the Nazira Press Club and the Nazira Freelance Journalists’ Association, and was also an adviser to the Nazira Sangabadik Mancha. A resident of Simaluguri town, Rahman combined journalism with entrepreneurship as proprietor of the Jyoti Cinema Hall. He was associated with Dainik Janambhumi as a senior journalist and, more recently, worked as the Simaluguri correspondent of Dainik Asam. On September 6, Rahman fell seriously ill while returning from an educational programme with his daughter. Despite being rushed first to the Nazira Sub‑Divisional Civil Hospital and later to AMCH, he succumbed to his condition on September 8.

The media fraternity in Kerala is mourning the loss of Jijo John Puthezhath, special correspondent with the Malayala Manorama Kochi unit, who passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 52. A graduate of the Kerala Press Academy, Jijo joined Malayala Manorama and went on to build a distinguished career in journalism. He was best known for his fearless investigative reporting, most notably exposing the 700‑crore investment fraud that recently drew national attention. His work earned him some of the country’s most prestigious honours, including the 2015 Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism and the 2020 Chief Editor’s Gold Medal at Malayala Manorama. Colleagues remembered him as a sharp, ethical, and relentless reporter who consistently highlighted issues of public concern. The Delhi High Court has issued summons in journalist Omar Rashid’s defamation suit against a woman lawyer who accused him of rape and forced beef‑eating in social media posts last year. Justice Sachin Dutta also issued notice on Rashid’s plea for interim injunctive relief, directing the defendant to file a reply within two weeks. The matter will next be heard on September 24 and before the Joint Registrar on October 8. Rashid, formerly with The Wire, has described the allegations as part of a “sinister campaign” designed to communalise and malign him. His suit follows the National Human Rights Commission’s closure of its inquiry into the same posts, which found no grounds for police action, Law Beat reported. Delhi-based independent journalist Bindu Gurjar has alleged that she and two other journalists, Monika Singh and Lokbhadra (Lok) Singh, faced pressure, surveillance and repeated attempts to push them out of Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, while they were reporting on the deaths of tribal children in the district. The three began ground reporting on August 28 after learning of the deaths and visited the affected villages and families to cross-check death tolls against official figures. At the time, the government was reporting merely eight deaths.
