Immediate Release 31st October, 2024:
Transmit Security is proud to announce that one of its key clients, Aflac, was recognised with the 2024 CSO Award for "Quackcess Granted" Passkey Authentication Initiative, powered by Transmit Security. The program was recognised with the 2024 CSO Award for innovation in cybersecurity, celebrating Aflac, a leading provider of supplemental health insurance and products in the U.S., for its success in elevating both security and customer experience through modern authentication technologies.
"The stakes grow higher every day for security leaders and their teams, and this year's CSO Awards honor the very best efforts to tackle challenges from an expanding threat landscape," said Beth Kormanik, Content Director for the CSO Conference & Awards.
Behind this award-winning project is Aflac's strategic collaboration with Transmit Security, whose identity-security platform, Mosaic by Transmit Security, stood out for its advanced passkey security, seamless implementation, and customisable user interface. The "Quackcess Granted" project exemplifies how leading organisations like Aflac can simplify the customer experience while maintaining high levels of security.
"We are honoured to receive this recognition from CSO for the 'Quackcess Granted' initiative," said Tim Callahan, Senior Vice President, Global Chief Information Security Officer at Aflac. "This project has transformed how our customers engage with us, making secure access seamless and frustration-free. With the support of Transmit Security, we've delivered a modern, industry standard experience that benefits both our customers and our business."
Aflac's impressive results
Designed to provide customers with the safe ability to login without a password, Aflac utilises passkey authentication—a secure, easy-to-use alternative to traditional passwords. Aflac's approach has improved login success rates to 96%, significantly reducing customer support requests and operational costs. Passkey adoption exceeded expectations, with more than 265,000 Aflac policyholders enrolling—surpassing the initial 10% target and reaching 32%. To date, there have been no reported login failures, and customers have had little to no need for required technical assistance, highlighting the value and appeal of the technology.
Recognizing excellence in cybersecurity innovation
The CSO Awards highlight standout projects that combine innovative technology with
measurable business impact. Aflac's "Quackcess Granted" initiative earned praise for
addressing real-world cybersecurity challenges while improving customer satisfaction and lowering operational overhead.
Passkey authentication, built on FIDO standards, delivers fast, secure, and user-friendly
registration, login, and recovery on Aflac's website. Designed for usability, it allows customers to sync their biometric credentials through the cloud across all passkey-supported devices. This expands traditional FIDO capabilities—originally tied to individual devices—by simplifying account access and ensuring seamless recovery, even when switching or restoring devices.
Passkeys are the inevitable replacement for passwords - they're already enabling stronger and simpler authentication across billions of user accounts today," said Andrew Shikiar, CEO of the FIDO Alliance.
"This award and partnership between Aflac and Transmit Security is a great example of how organisations can realise the great business benefits of passkeys - reduced phishing and credential theft risks while enhancing the customer experience with faster, more reliable sign-ins — without great technical lift or burden."
The strategic collaboration with Transmit Security
Built with cybersecurity at its core, Transmit Security's platform-Mosaic-provides a secure infrastructure for Aflac's passkey initiative, leveraging public key cryptography to create phishing-resistant authentication. With Mosaic, Aflac eliminated passwords and outdated multi-factor authentication (MFA) methods, mitigating account takeover (ATO) risks while offering customers a frictionless experience.
"We are excited to be part of Aflac's success with the 'Quackcess Granted' project," said David Mahdi, Chief Identity Officer at Transmit Security. "Passkeys are revolutionising digital authentication, and Mosaic ensures that companies like Aflac can seamlessly adopt this technology to enhance security without adding complexity."
The collaboration between Aflac and Transmit Security demonstrates how business goals and security innovations can align to deliver tangible results. Mosaic's ability to integrate passkey security across multiple devices ensures a consistent, branded experience for Aflac customers while maintaining robust security standards.
"With 69% of data breaches in the Asia-Pacific region caused by credential stuffing and 98% involving external threat actors, the 2024 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report makes it clear that password-based security is no longer adequate to protect organisations from account takeovers and other serious threats," said Richard Metcalfe, Vice President of Asia Pacific and Japan at Transmit Security. "Aflac's successful adoption of phishing-resistant, passwordless authentication shows where the industry needs to move to effectively combat data breaches and protect critical information assets."
How passkeys with Mosaic are transforming authentication
Mosaic by Transmit Security empowers organisations to offer biometric authentication, such as fingerprints or facial recognition, across devices. With passkeys, Aflac is able to provide seamless access without needing to remember or reset passwords. Their implementation includes customized workflows that keep the login process within Aflac's website, eliminating redirects to third-party services.
Ultimately, this reduces friction, enhances security, ensures a consistent brand experience and reinforces Aflac's customer trust and satisfaction. But the Mosaic platform offers more than passkeys-it streamlines identity management as a
whole by bridging customer identity, identity verification, and fraud prevention. By eliminating security silos, closing gaps, and reducing complexity, Mosaic ensures seamless, secure interactions across all touchpoints.
