Announcement posted by NewAI Classes 19 Aug 2024
At the recently concluded inaugural International Olympiad in AI (IOAI), the Sydney team from Australia has won the gold medal in the Practical Round! As the youngest team in the entire competition, they tied with the formidable teams from Poland, Bulgaria, and the USA, which was composed of five MIT-bound and three Stanford-bound students. Our team overcame numerous high school teams from around the world to reach the pinnacle of this prestigious international competition!
However, the awards ceremony took an unexpected turn when the organizing committee mistakenly announced the gold medal for the South Australia team instead of Sydney. After a tense two-minute pause, the error was clarified, and the Sydney team was rightfully recognized as the gold medalists. In a remarkable display of Olympic spirit, the Sydney team members chose to share their joy by gifting their awards to the South Australia team members. This generous act allowed more Australian teammates to bask in the victory, standing together at the pinnacle of international achievement.
The IOAI is the newest Olympiad competition, standing on equal footing with prestigious events like the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) and the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
A huge congratulations to the teachers and the students—what an incredible achievement! Looking forward to the second IOAI in Beijing next year. Let's keep the momentum going!
