Hospital for children with severe disabilities about to close

Key points

• More than 120 children from birth to 18 who have conditions such as genetic or chromosomal disorders, birth trauma, cerebral palsy, head injuries use Allowah - a specialist paediatric hospital in Sydney’s Dundas Valley. 
• Families are often at breaking point when they arrive at Allowah.
• There is no other place like Allowah in Australia. This unique, not-for-profit service is on the brink!

The children’s hospital will close soon without urgent financial support. 

• Without Allowah, some parents will have to surrender their child to the State. 
• Allowah provides homes for children who have been removed from their families who are waiting for a suitable foster home. 

“Allowah has provided a home away from home for our severely disabled daughter, Grace. She is much loved and expertly cared for by dedicated medical and allied health care professionals,” says Kimberly, mother of Grace.

• COVID-19 has had a huge financial impact on Allowah.
• Allowah has been working on obtaining government funding for the past 12 months. But this has not eventuated.

What will happen to these children and their families if Allowah is forced to close?
