Environmental journalists like Sharada Balasubramanian in Coimbatore and Joyjeet Das in Kolkata know the urgency of their mission. But between shrinking newsroom budgets, paywalls, algorithm-choked newsfeeds, and readers hooked on distractions, they’re constantly up against a system that doesn’t always value their work.
When Sharada began her journalism career over two decades ago the idea was clear and powerful: a story could reach policymakers, government officials and the public, and maybe even spark real change.
