The Advertiser, Gold Coast Bulletin welcome new editors

News Limited is shuffling the editorial deckchairs on its metropolitan mastheads with the editors of The Mercury and The Townsville Bulletin shifting to The Advertiser and Gold Coast Bulletin, respectively.
At The Advertiser in Adelaide, Matt Deighton is the new editor, following four years at the helm of the The Mercury in Hobart. It is a homecoming of sorts for Deighton, who used to work in the City of Churches for the Messenger Community News and Sunday Mail.
At the Gold Coast Bulletin, Ben English will succeed Scott Thompson in the editorship. Thompson, who was a temporary fill-in for the job, is leaving to attend to family matters. One of News Corp Australia’s most seasoned journalists, English is heading south from Townsville Bulletin, where he was editor since January 2016.
