Regional media company NewsFarm in operation

A regional media enterprise called NewsFarm is now in business.
Spearheaded by media veterans such as former AAP editor-in-chief Tony Gillies and former Newcastle Herald publisher Alan Oakley, the new company aims to lead the development of over 100 regional newspapers. These mastheads seek to employ journalists who live in the communities themselves and report the stories on the ground.
NewsFarm’s establishment program for each newspaper includes website development, editorial content standards, business marketing, and continuing education.
The creation of NewsFarm was borne of a need for localised newspaper coverage, especially in the wake of companies such as NewsCorp Australia shuttering over 100 regional and community titles in the past two years.
