By Pragadish Kirubakaran, Pradeep Damodaran and Neeraja Gopalakrishnan in Media News on
Telangana has landed in the eye of a press freedom storm after Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police arrested two women journalists, Pogadadanda Revathi, managing director of Pulse News and reporter Thanvi Yadav, for allegedly circulating a video critical of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. Hot off the Press The Indian Express’ Rahul V Pisharody and Nikhila Henry and Times of India reported that the arrests followed a complaint from V.S. Vamshi Kiran, a Congress social media cell member, who claimed the video featured an elderly farmer using derogatory language against the Chief Minister. The footage was reportedly recorded at the BRS office in Banjara Hills. Both journalists have been remanded to judicial custody until March 26, with Revathi releasing a video before her arrest, accusing the government of silencing dissent and threatening her family. Through the Digital Lens The New Indian Express noted that their arrest has triggered fierce political and journalistic backlash, with

By Staff writer in Media News on
After nearly four years, Jillian Davison has stepped down as editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar Australia and New Zealand.  Since taking the helm in 2021, Davison has played a pivotal role in relaunching the magazine, revitalising its content and creative direction amid a challenging period for the publishing industry, Mumbrella reported. Alex Switzer, CEO of Switzer Media and Publishing, credited Davison’s leadership for shaping the brand’s modern identity, saying, “Her vision and passion have made a lasting impact.” Reflecting on her tenure, Davison called it an “incredible privilege” and said she was “excited to see the brand continue to innovate.” The magazine was relaunched in 2021 through a partnership between Hearst Magazines International and Switzer Media, following its closure in 2020 under previous owner Are Media. Capital Brief expands with key hire and growth strategy

By Staff writer in Media News on
Capital Brief, the business and politics publisher, has strengthened its editorial team with the appointment of Michael Pelly, former legal editor at The AFR, Mumbrella reported.  The move aligns with the publication’s broader expansion plans, bringing its staff count to 30, with additional hires, including a deputy editor and senior correspondent on the horizon. CEO Chris Janz emphasised that Capital Brief’s focus remains on quality journalism over short-term profits. “We are growing, and we’re ahead of the plan. The beauty of this model is that if we add journalists, we add subscribers… we have proven this model works,” he said.  He added that the platform prioritises in-depth analysis and insight over mass audience reach, ensuring that journalism remains tailored to business and political leaders. “We don’t talk about reach. The moment you make page views the focus, you change the journalism and lose your core audience.” Pelly, who holds a law degree and ha

By Staff writer in Media News on
Sydney’s 2Day FM has undergone a major format shift, aiming to capture a younger audience with a stronger emphasis on new music, Mumbrella reported.  The station now promises to play "more new music than any other commercial radio station in Sydney" while prioritising Australian artists like Troye Sivan and The Kid Laroi alongside global stars such as SZA and Billie Eilish. The move follows last year’s Breakfast show shake-up, where The Jimmy & Nath Show replaced Hughesy, Ed & Erin, signalling a broader shift in programming. Emma Chow has now joined the team full-time, further cementing the station’s new direction. Dave Cameron, chief content officer at Southern Cross Austereo, said the format change has been in development for some time, driven by audience insights and a desire to break away from traditional market strategies.  The station also plans to exceed its local content quota, a move welcomed by the music industry, with major labels supporting 2Day FM’s
