McGeough bows out from Nine papers

Paul McGeough has formally retired from journalism after 28 years of service.
He made the exit following redundancy negotiations with Nine, which had been planning for some time to reorganise the foreign correspondents’ desk.
McGeough’s career began in 1991, quickly becoming an authority on the Middle East, covering the Gulf War from Kuwait and Iraq, America’s invasion of Iraq in 2003, and Israel’s blockade of Palestine in 2010.
He interviewed some of the most controversial figures and leaders in the Middle East including Afghan warlord Matiullah Khan, Shiite warlord Abu Deraa, and Hamas leader Khalid Mishal.
