ABC producer TikTok banning sparks concerns
By Staff Writers in Media News on Tuesday, 29th October 2024 at 5:19pm
An ABC content producer has had TikTok account mysteriously banned, triggering suspicions that the decision might have been politically motivated.
Flip Prior is an Audience and Content Development Producer at ABC. She posted to her LinkedIn account that her account had been “permanently banned due to multiple violations of our Community Guidelines.”
Prior noted that none of her content would even remotely infringe TiKTok guidelines. In fact, she went further to say “I don't ever post or comment with opinions about anything political or controversial on ANY social platform”.
However, she alluded that one action could be connected to her banning.
“What I DID post on LinkedIn and Facebook - not on TikTok - a day before my sudden ban was congratulations to my brilliant colleague Echo Hui, of the ABC Investigations team, on her exclusive reporting on a former Chinese spy turned whistleblower which has earned her a Walkley nomination.”

The long-delayed national census, now slated for 2025, carries significant implications for India’s political, economic, and social landscape. A major element is its impact on Lok Sabha delimitation, potentially reshaping parliamentary constituencies to reflect demographic changes since the last census. Hindustan Times' Smriti Kak Ramachandran reported this census could influence the newly approved 33 per cent women’s reservation in Parliament, possibly implemented by 2029.
Caste data remains a contentious point. While some leaders and political parties are pushing for caste enumeration, seen as essential for fair resource allocation and social planning, the government is yet to confirm this inclusion. Liz Mathew and Amitabh Sinha for Indian Express highlighted that a caste-based count could heighten political tensions, especially with various regional parties championing this data for welfare schemes.
Additionally, the census’ potential insights into socioeconomic indicato

Understanding TikTok a learning curve for Smith
By Will McLennan in Media News on Tuesday, 29th October 2024 at 11:41am
Since departing Kotaku Australia, former managing editor David Smith has looked to understand TikTok with the creation of his Rhunwords account, admitting it's been a learning curve for him to understand the complexities of the platform.
“[It’s been] very different to the way we were piecing blogs together on Kotaku for sure. So there's been a bit of learning to do. I feel like I'm getting on top of it.”
Smith said the most challenging aspect has been understanding what works on TikTok and what doesn’t.

I didn't put a lot of work into that video. I very much saw the movie, came home, recorded my response to it, and lightly cut it together and then uploaded it.
“That video did 1.2 million views. It's still [doing better] compared to a video that’s much more heavily edited. Something that I really took
