LOOP FM never actually existed

By Jonas Lopez in Media News on

LOOP FM logoSouthern Cross Austereo (SCA) has cleared the air regarding the mysterious 99.1 LOOP FM channel in Toowoomba.

SCA-Darling Downs content director David Burton said the station’s repeat plays of certain songs, namely A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton and Something in the Air Tonight by Phil Collins, were borne out of programming decisions as a result of SCA Toowoomba’s relocation of its operating site and not a real station.

The station was never officially named LOOP FM, but was given that moniker by a local fan who also set up an unofficial Facebook page and created a requests phone line.

Burton clarified that the moving of the Toowoomba station saw the end of Kids FM on 99.1 and the songs were a temporary backstop pending a final decision on the fate of the frequency. DAB+ digital station Buddha Hits has since taken over the channel.

Burton expressed his thanks to the Facebook page admin, going by the name of Mike, for helping bring an audience to the station.
