Journalists give dignified farewell to 102-year-old in Cuttack with no family

In a moving act of compassion, two journalists in Odisha’s Cuttack district stepped in to perform the final rites of an elderly woman after no villagers came forward to cremate her.
Speaking to Influencing, Bhairab Sethy, a journalist with The Samaja newspaper, said he received a call on Sunday, November 30, from a resident of Lendura Bhagawanpur village under Kalamishri panchayat in the Cuttack Sadar Assembly constituency. The caller informed him that a 102-year-old woman, identified as Rangalata Sadangi, had passed away. With no family members to take responsibility, the caller sought help to conduct the last rites.
