During the meeting, they discussed journalist welfare, media development, and the need for better coordination with the department, seeking support to address issues faced by journalists across the state. A 21-year-old journalism student died after jumping in front of a passenger train in Maranallur, near Thiruvananthapuram, on Tuesday morning. The deceased, Deepu, a student of Christ Nagar College, reportedly stepped in front of the Kochuveli–Nagercoil passenger train around 7.30 am. Police suspect he had been under stress after missing an exam last month and have begun further investigation, Keralakaumudi reported.

The brutal murder of 30-year-old vernacular newspaper journalist Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday morning has sent shockwaves through the media fraternity, sparking widespread protests and intensifying calls for a national law to protect journalists. Reddy was out for a morning walk at the V. Kota Mandal headquarters when he was chased down and hacked to death with sickles by unidentified assailants. District Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi, who visited the crime scene to inspect CCTV footage and collect evidence, has emphasised the need for a swift investigation. Addressing the media in V. Kota, Mr Tushar Dudi stated, "The motives behind the murder are being thoroughly investigated, and the accused will be identified and arrested on a priority basis."
