Journalists attacked while probing alleged illegal mining in Tamil Nadu

A reporter and a cameraman of a Tamil television news channel were attacked by a group of men while investigating an alleged illegal mining operation in the district on Friday, police said.
The Tiruchirappalli based reporter Kathiravan and cameraman Sabastian were injured when they went to Krishnarayapuram to inquire into the alleged mining activity. The assailants were reportedly supporters of a local politician. Police rescued the injured journalists and admitted them to hospital. No arrests have been made so far.
The Tamil Nadu Journalists’ Welfare Union condemned the attack, alleging that the quarry was owned by a DMK legislator, and demanded immediate action against those responsible. BJP leader K Annamalai and AIADMK leader M R Vijayabhaskar also condemned the incident and call...
