FIR against former bureaucrat for threatening journalist

An FIR has been registered against retired IAS officer Hitesh Dev Sarma for allegedly threatening a journalist over a report related to a protest involving his son, who serves in the police force.
According to Hindustan Times, a case was filed at Pathshala police station under Sections 351(2) for criminal intimidation and death threat, 352 for intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace, and 296 for obscene acts in a public place under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Sarma, who retired as the state coordinator of the National Register of Citizens in Assam in 2022, is accused of calling journalist Rana Deka of NKTV on Thursday and objecting to the channel’s coverage of the October 15 violence outside Baksa district jail.
