Tech and politics natural fit for The Guardian’s Taylor
By Will McLennan in Media News on Tuesday, 26th November 2024 at 11:43am
The Guardian’s Josh Taylor career has vacillated between reporting on tech and politics, so it’s not surprising that he’s loving his current role where he gets to do both.
Taylor has always had a keen interest in technology. Indeed, he studied Computer Science at university.
“The thing that I noticed when I was doing my computer science degree was that I was getting much higher marks about technical documentation, explaining how to explain to people how things work,” he told Influencing.
However, Taylor's lightbulb moment to enter journalism didn’t come until he worked at a media monitoring company.
“I had to listen to the Alan Joneses of the world. Then, when I was working there, I decided maybe a year or two in that I actually think I could give journalism a go and see how it works. And so I took a master's course in journalism and was lucky enough to be hired by ZDNet just as I graduated.”
“I hadn't really figured out exactly what I wan

Today’s Ten: Finding a CM candidate in the victorious Mahayuti alliance
By Pradeep Damodaran in Media News on Monday, 25th November 2024 at 4:29pm
With the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance sweeping Maharashtra polls decisively and the BJP securing 132 of the 288-seat assembly on its own, the question of who would lead the alliance has occupied prominent front page space in all leading publications with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis emerging as the front runners.
"Shinde would have been a shoo-in as CM had the poll results thrown up a modest majority for Mahayuti, but the scale of BJP’s performance has transformed the party’s outlook. It would like to leverage the numbers it has to anoint Fadnavis as CM as it believes he scripted the big win after playing second fiddle to Shinde for 2.5 years as deputy CM," wrote Akhilesh Singh for The Times of India.
He pointed out that the BJP’s brass is reportedly pushing for a change while acknowledging Shinde’s leadership, the success of his Ladki Bahin initiative and his persona as a man of action. But it believes the win has equally been that of Hindut
