Today’s Ten: India Inc loses its crowing jewel, Ratan Tata

By Pradeep Damodaran in Media News on
Ratan Naval Tata, the former Tata Group chairman who transformed a legacy Indian business house into a global salt-to-software conglomerate and became the face of the resurgent Indian economy in the new millennium, died in a Mumbai hospital late on Wednesday. With tributes pouring in from across the country and the rest of the world, all major publications highlighted Ratan's stint at the helm of the respected group for 20-odd years in ensuring the Tata brand was stamped on global icons such as Jaguar and Tetley as well as his philanthropic work. Tata was a decorated and respected businessman who won the country’s second-highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhushan in 2008 and the third-highest honour, the Padma Bhushan in 2000. Known for his soft-spoken demeanour and humility in public events, his public persona was larger-than-life, and far beyond what a captain of the industry could imagine to command, reported the Hindustan Times bureau in a tribute aptly titled "India In

Sainsbury waltzes into visual novel project

By Will McLennan in Media News on
Dancesport is the name given to competitive ballroom dancing. “[The Last Waltz] is constructed out of bits and pieces that have come to me over a very long time of watching dance movies, participating in Dancesport myself, talking to dancers and whatnot. So it's a collection of [my] experiences.” The visual novel—a specific type of game blending text-based narrative with anime/manga style art—focuses on DDNet’s mascot, Danica and their partner Micah’s two decade career in dancesport. Sainsbury says he hopes to introduce Dancesport to a “wider audience”. “Hopefully, if even one person plays it and is converted into a fan of Dancesport, then I think I would have done something through this project.” “You wouldn't recognise these dances unless you were a dancer. You wouldn't recognise these dances if you passed them on the street. So what I wanted to show with this and what I hope people get out of it is where the passion comes from for the sport.” Sainsbur

Today’s Ten: BJP’s gains in J&K and Haryana prove pollsters wrong again

By Pragadish Kirubakaran in Media News on
In a surprising turn of events, the BJP pulled off a victory in Haryana and made significant inroads in Jammu & Kashmir, contradicting the predictions made by most exit polls. In Haryana, the BJP achieved a historic hat-trick, securing a third consecutive win, as reported by Ariba, Aradhana Kalia and Vikas Pathak from The Indian Express. Meanwhile, in J&K, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) led the charge, yet the BJP emerged as a formidable player, bagging 29 seats in Jammu, according to Peerzada Ashiq of The Hindu. Before the results, exit polls had widely suggested a much weaker performance for the BJP. This led to a frenzy of speculation around potential losses, especially in Haryana. The Times of India, in a piece by Ajay Surya, Akhilesh Singh and Saleem Pandit, even highlighted how Congress strategists were already gearing up to analyse a possible BJP defeat. The actual results, however, left the Congress blindsided and struggling for answers, with the

By Will McLennan in Media News on
Plodski - aka Andrew Dryden -  hopes that newly introduced measures will address the current Twitch monetary system as reduced payments for affiliated and partnered streamers have lingered for sometime on the streaming platform.  “I believe there's been a new thing as of last week, where Twitch mentioned they’re going to make partnerships a bit easier, which is good because the old Twitch partnership split was 70-30. Where affiliates get 50-50 regardless, but then they used to never count raids [where broadcasters can send the viewers to another stream when finishing up their stream].   The Twitch Affiliate program is for streamers to unlock monetisation and video capabilities to further their build audiences.
