2CH gets ready for 2020 season

Classic Hits 2CH card (photo credit: 2CH Sydney)Sydney station Classic Hits 2CH is entering the 2020 season with some hosting changes, effective 13 January.

Current mornings host Tim Webster will have a longer time on-air, as he takes up the breakfast slot as well. Former 2CH breakfast host Kayley Harris will be his executive producer, plus do hosting on weekends.

“Tim was the logical choice, respected by his peers, and loved by audiences across Sydney. He is the ultimate broadcast professional and will deliver a class breakfast program charged with up to date information, News, Traffic and Weather every 15 minutes, then add in Tim’s distinct ‘take’ on the issues of the day, his passion for playing Classic Hits from the 60’s and 70’s and you have a recipe for a show that will appeal to Sydney’s 50 + audience,” said station GM Cherie Romaro. 

Trevor Sinclair, who used to run breakfast with Indira Naidoo and Dave Gibson until last December, is moved up to the afternoon and drive shows. Chris Kearns continues with Tonight Live.

Naidoo to host Weekend Nightlife

ABC Radio is tapping Indira Naidoo to co-host the Weekend Nightlife show alongside Phillip Clark, starting February 2020.

The plan calls for Clark to host every Monday to Thursday, while Naidoo takes over from Friday to Sunday. It will be Naidoo’s first gig at the national broadcaster in 23 years. In the interim, she had, among other things, worked with SBS, became spokesperson for consumer body Choice, and joined Trevor Sinclair on 2CH’s breakfast show.

Weekend airings set for Moonman in the Morning

The Triple M Network is putting the Moonman in the Morning show on nationwide syndication for two hours on weekends.

The weekender show, Moonman across Australia, features the highlights of Moonman in the Morning’s broadcasts all week long. 

Triple M’s metro stations will air them at their specific times on Saturday but non-metro stations will air the show starting 1 February at 10AM.

Bushfire edition marked for Good Weekend

The recent bushfires will see Nine newspapers focus much of this weekend’s Good Weekend on the catastrophe.

The 25 January edition of the pullout will contain a 16-page wraparound featuring the bushfires. 

It has photographs taken by staff from both Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, plus an interview with Bushfire and Natural Hazard CRC chief Richard Thornton. 

The Store is also offering readers larger prints of the wraparound’s pictures, with the proceeds going to NSW RFS, CFA VIC, and WIRES. 

“Good Weekend is all about delivering stories on what’s important to Australians – and right now there is nothing more important than the bushfires sweeping our beautiful country,” said Good Weekend editor Katrina Strickland.

3WRB closes down

Melbourne community station 3WRB Stereo974 is no longer transmitting, reported RadioInfo.

The station’s Mandarin/Cantonese announcer, Raymond Chow, said the management called a staff meeting to announce the closure because of a lack of funds. 

The station primarily operates via Community Broadcast Fund grants, but Fund reforms over the past two years have cost the station valuable grant allocations. 

Stereo 974’s Geelong Road site in Brooklyn was also marked for redevelopment and staff figured they no longer have the money to finance a relocation. The station began airing in North Sunshine in 1978.

“Stereo974 with its focused diverse ethnic broadcasting has provided an important service in broadcasting emergency information, council information and local activities to the CALD communities. Its death is a detrimental blow to the CALD communities in Melbourne,” said Chow.

Frank PR appoints CEO

Frank PR has tapped its first-ever CEO.

Mumbrella reported that the post went to Annalise Brown, who has been working the past 18 months as a communications consultant. She will now team up with managing director Amy Whittaker to lead the business. 

Whittaker’s partner at the MD post, Laura Jones, meanwhile, is being reassigned to Frank UK next month. 

Brown has a firm management record under her belt. She previously sat as chair of the Public Relations Council and became MD for Porter Novelli, the Splendid Communications Group and Bang PR, which she headed as it rebranded as Hidden Characters. 

“This is an exciting time for the Frank business and indeed our industry. I’m looking forward to working with Amy and the team, growing the offering and therefore the opportunities locally whilst also capitalising on the extensive experience of our UK business,” said Brown of her appointment.

Go assumes Walkley Foundation reins

Marina Go has been chosen as the Walkley Foundation’s new chairperson, succeeding Kerry O’Brien.

She was chosen on account of her long experience with the Foundation’s Judging Board and director-level responsibilities. Go is best known for, among others, having been a publisher of Crikey, Private Media CEO, and co-founding the Women’s Agenda leadership site.

In learning of her selection, Go revealed the direction she intends to take the Foundation under her watch.

“The media has changed dramatically in recent years, and the Walkley Foundation’s role in celebrating and supporting the best of Australian journalism has never been more important. We remain focused on elevating the value of quality journalism and highlighting the impact that it has on our society and our democracy,” she said.

Zagon in action at Nine News Melbourne

Chanel Zagon has taken on duties at Nine News Melbourne as digital reporter and producer.

She joined the team following an announcement of her exit from the Geelong Advertiser before the holiday season. 

Zagon had been a print reporter even before graduating with a Journalism degree from RMIT, writing for Tempo Media. She would later spend over a year each at Leader Community Newspapers, the Melbourne Herald Sun, and the Geelong Advertiser.
