ElectricityWizard CEO Welcomes Flexible Energy Prices in Victoria to Provide Customers with More Options

Announcement posted by ShopAround.com.au 24 Oct 2012

The Victorian Government plans to introduce flexible energy pricing to save the average energy customer up to $150 a year. ElectricityWizard CEO Alan Belkin welcomes this change to provide electricity customers with another money-saving solution.
Experienced energy broker and ElectricityWizard CEO Alan Belkin is pleased with the recent announcement that Victorian customers can soon take advantage of flexible energy rates to ease the burden on the state-wide electricity market.
Starting in mid-2013, customers can choose to transfer to flexible pricing plans with different rates for peak, off-peak, and shoulder time periods. Making the switch could result in a potential savings of up to $150 a year.
Electricity comparison expert Belkin on www.shoparound.com.au can attest to the fact that this will be welcome news for energy customers in the state. He confirms, "We deal with customers every day who are looking for cheaper energy rates to make annual power bills more affordable. Now that customers have another option in flexible pricing in Victoria, they can make power bills even cheaper by reducing expenses by over $100 a year.”
The trial period for the new pricing plan will extend from July 2013 to May 2015. Customers that opt to use the new flexible plan can voluntarily switch back to customary flat rates if they aren’t satisfied.
Victoria Energy Minister Michael O'Brien believes that these changes in the electricity marketplace will help the average household to save a significant amount of money. Both residential and small business customers can access a more flexible pricing plan to make quarterly electricity bills manageable.
Belkin points out that this new flexible pricing structure will only be available to Victorian energy customers with Smart Meters. According to Belkin, "A government analysis supports the fact that using a Smart Meter with a flexible pricing plan could stimulate the economy with a surplus of up to $229 million. This is one more step in the right direction to relieve pressure on the energy market and make nationwide electricity rates more affordable."
Customers are urged to monitor their electricity use at certain times of the day and adjust their consumption accordingly. Transferring to flexible pricing can also help to balance the electricity market during times of peak demand, such as hot summer months.
