No Cure, But Not Without Hope: Australians with CMT unite for Global Awareness Month

Did you know that over 10,000 Australians - adults and children alike - are currently living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease, the little-known but most inherited neurological disease with no cure?

As part of the global CMT Awareness Month, CMT Australia has launched a groundbreaking new book: "Understanding Charcot-Marie-Tooth  - Your One-Stop Guide." It's a national first  - a clear, compassionate resource created to empower families, patients and carers with practical advice, real stories and expert insights.

According to Professor Marina Kennerson, renowned expert in neurogenetics and neuroscience of CMT, and contributor to the book, this easy-to-understand, science-backed guide empowers patients, families, and carers to better understand and manage life with CMT.

She elaborates, "This book provides clear, accessible information about the genetics, symptoms, and management of CMT, while also sharing real stories and practical guidance to help individuals navigate daily challenges. By translating complex science into understandable language, this guide gives patients the tools they need to be informed partners in their healthcare journey."

Beyond being an educational guide, this book is a testament to the strength and resilience of the CMT community. It highlights the latest advances in research, underscores the importance of advocacy, and offers hope for the future of therapies. By connecting patients, families, and professionals, this book represents a vital step forward in raising awareness and ensuring no one faces CMT alone."

This book is part of CMT Australia's overarching goal to unite all those in Australia who are impacted by CMT - the most commonly inherited neuropathy - as well as empower those with CMT to live their lives to the fullest.
