Media release: UK sax virtuoso Tom Waters teams with Australia's Geoff Achison

Announcement posted by Jameson & Co 25 Nov 2024

Son of Honky Tonk king Ben Waters brings Brush With The Blues to Australia

A young rising British star in the world of rhythm & blues, jazz, funk, blues, Latin and roots music is joining forces with one of Australia's blues legends to bring an exhilarating. one-of-a-kind musical experience to metro and regional venues in New South Wales, ACT and Victoria in the summer of 2025.

The Brush With The Blues tour will see saxophone virtuoso Tom Waters - the prodigiously talented son of renowned UK pianist Ben Waters - and iconic blues guitarist Geoff Achison combine their remarkable talents in a show that promises to break new ground in the worlds of blues, country, rock and funky jazz.

It's not every day that you witness a collaboration between such unique and celebrated musicians, each bringing their own distinct style to the stage. This isn't just a concert—it's a dynamic fusion of masterful musicianship, where tradition meets innovation, and two distinct musical voices transcend generational boundaries and come together in perfect harmony.

Waters is a graduate of the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London. He has already recorded or played with legends like The Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, George Thorogood, Ray Davies and the BB King All Stars. His list of collaborators reads like a who's who of rock 'n' roll royalty, and he's also a regular with Jools Holland's R&B Orchestra. Named one of the UK's Top 5 "Young Blues Artists of the Year" by the UK Blues Federation for 2024, Tom is a force to be reckoned with on the sax. This tour comes as he prepares to release his debut album, featuring contributions from Jools Holland, Chanel Haynes, the Cinelli Brothers, Ariel Posen and of course, Geoff Achison.

On the other hand, Achison is an iconic figure in blues and roots music. Starting out under the tutelage of Australian blues legend Dutch Tilders, Geoff has carved out his own path, blending blues, soul, funk, and folk into a signature sound that has captivated audiences worldwide. With a career spanning decades and comparisons to greats like Eric Clapton, JJ Cale, and The Allman Brothers Band, he is on the verge of releasing his 14th album.

Together, their Brush With The Blues tour promises an unforgettable showcase of blues, country, rock, and funky jazz, both performing original tracks from their extensive catalogues, alongside timeless roots classics, in a show dedicated to the late Jeff Beck, with whom Tom has shared the stage. The tour name is a nod to a Jeff Beck piece that Tom performed live, with Jeff, at London's Ronnie Scott's Club.

This collaboration is not just a concert, it's a celebration of exceptional musicianship, generational artistry, and a shared love for the roots of rhythm and blues. Don't miss this rare opportunity to witness two masters at the top of their game, blending their talents for a truly unique and exhilarating performance.

WHO IS TOM WATERS?

Musical prodigy Tom Waters is a highly accomplished British saxophonist playing Rhythm & Blues, Jazz, Blues, Funk, Latin and Roots music. A graduate of London's prestigious Royal Academy of Music, he has recorded with chart-topping bands and rock 'n roll legends such as the Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, Ray Davies, Ronnie Wood's Mad Lads, the BB King All Stars, Free Nationals and  Broken Social Scene. Now a regular with Jools Holland's R&B Orchestra, Waters has been named by the UK Blues Federation as one of the UK's top 5 "Young Blues Artists of the Year for 2024".

.

Tom started his music career at the age of eight, touring with internationally renowned, piano playing father Ben Waters. The twosome spent some years touring the world, with highlights including the Glee Club in Japan with piano player Keito Siato, the Cork Jazz Festival and several tours of Australia & New Zealand including with Tim Ries & Bernard Fowler (Rolling Stones) and Chris Jagger. 2023 saw Tom branch out into promotion with concerts at London's iconic Cadogan Hall and NYC's The Cutting Room.

Whilst studying at the Royal Academy, Tom successfully launched his own band "Tom Waters' Electric People". The band recently recorded its first album, due for release in October 2024.

After a jam-packed couple of years touring with the band that led to TV and radio appearances across France and Germany, Waters' silky talents are in demand around London, including a recent residency at the high-profile Pizza Express venues across London.

As well as a heavy band schedule, Tom can be found composing for the BMG Music Production Company, the world's fastest-growing production music company located with nine offices worldwide.

He has been called on to compose and provide backing for high profile commercials involving Kate Moss and Josephine de la Baume and is a featured guest on solo recordings by Georgia Cecile and Moyses Dos Santos.

As a keen student with a love of Australia from his numerous visits, Tom's planned 2025 tour down under in collaboration with Aussie icon Geoff Achison is an opportunity to explore an eclectic mix of music across Blues, Funk, R&B and Jazz playing their own material and new arrangements of their favourite songs.

With a heavy and increasing schedule of work ahead, Tom is proof beyond doubt that the sax can rock 'roll!
