SYDNEY MALE CHOIR
"Let us entertain you concert" to benefit Mary's House
The Sydney Male Choir (SMC) has been entertaining Sydney audiences continuously since 1913, performing at every Anzac Day Dawn Service in Martin Place since 1932.
The thirty plus talented and passionate singers captivate audiences across New South Wales with their dynamic performances. Offering a unique blend of traditional choral music, contemporary hits, and beloved classics, there is something for everyone. "Our performances are not just about music, they are an experience that brings people together, creating memorable moments that resonate long after the final note" say Musical Director James Paul.
As finalists in Channel 7's Australia's Got Talent 2022, Sydney Male Choir wowed the judges and audience with two explosive performances that saw them through to the last sixteen of over 164 acts. Their most recent performance was as guest choir at the Symphonic Productions of Pirates of the Caribbean, Curse of the Black Pearl at the International Convention Centre Darling Harbour on 17 June 2024. The performance attracted over 12,000 patrons over two performances.
Each year the choir performs its annual concert at the iconic Sydney Town Hall. This year's event on Saturday 17th August sees the concert incorporating the string section from the Sydney Lyric Orchestra and the Sydney High School Girls Senior Choir, both having been being invited to perform with The Sydney Male Choir.
The theme for this year's event is "Let us entertain you" and that is certainly the intention, aiming to deliver on that with the soaring and powerful harmonies of the SMC combined with the rich sounds of the ten-piece string section together with the angelic and serene sounds of the girls' choir. This year's performance will incorporate new songs by Bob Dylan, U2 and Sting. It promises to be a wonderful afternoon of music.
This year's Town Hall concert also puts a spotlight on the very serious National issue of domestic violence via SMC's partnership with Mary's House, a non-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing refuge to women and children who are survivors of domestic violence. Mary's House has provided over 13,000 nights' accommodation to women and children since it commenced operations.
SMC recognises the scourge that domestic violence represents in our society and is determined to assist in a practical way by highlighting the work of Mary's House, as well as assisting in a practical way by raising much needed funds. Volunteers from Marys House will be at the concert to raise money through a raffle at the interval. Yvette Vignando, Mary's House CEO, will also speak to the audience about the important work of this worthy charity.
The concert commences at 2 pm on Saturday 17 August at Sydney Town Hall, doors open at 1.15 pm and finishes at 4.30 pm. Tickets are $55, concession $50, children under 16 are free and available on https://www.trybooking.com/.Tickets are also available at the door.
