Perth, Australia — Oceanis International, a leading design, engineering and project management firm specialising in local and international aquatics and marine projects, has announced the appointment of Ryan Rao to the position of Principal. In this new capacity, Rao will lead the company's commercial projects, client interactions, and stakeholder management. This advancement recognizes Ryan's outstanding contributions to Oceanis' specialist aquatics engineering and consultancy, his valued contribution to our client's projects, and leadership within the company.

Since joining Oceanis as a Project Engineer, Rao has contributed to projects as a Senior Engineer — providing design and consultancy for diverse and technically complex marine and aquatic projects both within Australia and internationally. On behalf of Oceanis, Ryan has successfully delivered over 50 projects across a diverse range of applications, including marine research facilities in Saudi Arabia, the Australian Institute of Marine Science's Seasim, deep well geothermal heating systems in Western Australia, large lagoon pools in the South Pacific, reef restoration initiatives, and the design and planning of major aquatic centers — Ryan's professionalism, technical expertise and business acumen is recognized by Oceanis with this promotion.

Ryan directs a team of highly skilled multidisciplinary engineers, architects, and technical professionals across two international offices.

During his time with Oceanis, Rao has been formally recognized in the industry, including being selected as Engineers Australia' 2022 Young Environmental Engineer of the Year, and was a semi-finalist for the 2019 Scott Print Environment and Sustainability Young Achiever's Award. In 2024, Rao was once again nominated as Engineers Australia's Emerging Professional Engineer of the Year.

His passion for engineering extends beyond his professional role, sitting on Murdoch University's School of Engineering & IT — Discipline Advisory Committee, fostering the development of the next generation of engineers and technical professionals.

"Ryan Rao's new role as Principal at Oceanis is a testament to his hard work and commitment to our industry," according to Ken Shular, Managing Director of Oceanis International. "We are confident that, in his new role, Ryan will continue to drive innovation, and we look forward to the exciting advancements and achievements that lie ahead for him and for our company."

Beyond his professional achievements, Ryan is an avid scuba diver, having participated in numerous Project Aware underwater clean-up dives around Perth and reef restoration work in Asia.
