2023 GLOBAL SALARY GUIDE

[Sydney – 27 April 2023] Leading global architecture & design (A&D) recruitment agency, Bespoke Careers, has just released their one-of-a-kind, highly anticipated Global Salary Guide for 2023 -- providing insights into the global job market and salary trends for A&D professionals across London, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Austin.

As the war for talent wages on, architecture and design firms must get creative to attract the best staff. Bespoke Careers’ Global Salary Guide uncovers the policies and perks top firms are offering to stand apart – including hybrid work, dog-friendly offices, profit sharing schemes and more.

“Gone are the days when simply placing an ad would result in a slew of suitable applicants. It’s now more important than ever to ‘sell’ what you’re offering, and practices are using a variety of tools to ensure the right applicants come on board,” shares Bespoke Careers CEO Lindsay Urquhart.

In its seventh edition, this year includes a message from the CEO and a look at the Bespoke Careers leadership team, detailed salary guides, a brief city overview, insights on what practices are doing to attract and retain talent, as well as a guide to standard, enhanced and outstanding benefits packages.

Many London offices have implemented a mix of fixed office and work from home days, whilst others are requiring their staff to return to the office full time. What matters to candidates has changed -- an influx of candidates are interested in working on more sustainable projects at practices with good human rights records. They’re also looking for employers who are respectful, transparent and sensitive to issues such as burnout and career stagnation.

In Australia, firms are seeing an influx of international talent due to the return of working holiday and highly skilled workers. They are fighting to keep these candidates by offering a range of new initiatives, including 9-day fortnights and hybrid work arrangements. They’re also getting creative and bringing back retired staff part-time to meet demand.

The situation across the USA differs across cities. NYC is grappling with a serious lack of staff due to talent having left the city—trying to lure talent back from the west coast and Texas. Firms in LA are doing a lot more to encourage staff to return to offices – particularly when it comes to wellbeing, offering perks like gym memberships and paid learning and development programs. In Austin and Dallas, working from home remains the exception rather than the rule.

The introduction of new pay transparency laws in the USA will result in some interesting trends over the next 12 months – definitely one to watch, and something the Guide will discuss in 2024.
