Vehicle recall data removed from PPSR reports.

Announcement posted by Fleetcare 28 Mar 2023

Changes to come into effect 11:59PM AEDT on 29 March 2023

Further to our earlier release the AFSA (Australian Financial Security Authority) has announced that at 11:59PM AEDT on 29 March 2023, PPSR search results, search certificates and verification statements will no longer include vehicle safety recall data.

The reason for this significant change is apparently a larger than expected number of searches that return a status of ‘contact manufacturer’. The PPSR is directing consumers to the contact the relevant manufacturer for current recall status while they work to address the issue.

Fleetcare’s Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Malcolm, said “Obviously we are disappointed that the Australian Financial Security Authority has made the decision to withdraw the Safety Recall Data from the PPSR. It appears to me that Manufacturers are overwhelmed by the number of requests that have been generated from the PPSR where the status has not been updated by them. We anticipate that the Australian Financial Security Authority will do the right thing and reinstate this once Manufacturers have been able to come to terms with providing this essential information.”

“We know that some manufacturers struggle to provide clarity around the status of recalls, leaving the consumer unaware that their vehicle is either unsafe to drive or non-compliant for sale. However, there are other manufacturers leading the way in this space including Mazda and Toyota, who provide clear information as to which of their recalls are resolved or unresolved. We hope to see others following suit soon.”

Fleetcare will continue to provide its Recall Management service which includes:

  • Identifying vehicles with recalls and their status.
  • Drivers and customer key contacts informed about recalls affecting their vehicle(s) and fleet, linking to relevant recall information.
  • Status of customer communication and vehicle recall is tracked.
