During pregnancy, it is known that what mothers eat is important for their baby in-utero to get the appropriate nutrients.

However, most mothers are unaware of the importance of good blood flow and circulation to ensure that those nutrients and oxygen, are delivered to their developing baby.

With 80 per cent of pregnant women suffering circulation issues during pregnancy [1], new maternity brand TheRY (The Reason Why) has launched The Saviour Maternity Legging to revolutionise the maternity legging market and turn what women should expect from their leggings on their head. Mothers deserve the best and need so much more than just another black legging

TheRY’s Saviour Maternity Legging is engineered with graduated compression technology that can help improve maternal blood flow and help support the health and well-being of both mother and baby.

While in the womb, the nutrients that the baby requires for growth and development are delivered through maternal blood flow via the umbilical cord and the placenta[2]. Thus, healthy blood flow during pregnancy, as early as 12 weeks (when the placenta is formed) is of vital importance.

It is difficult for mothers to know if they have adequate blood flow during pregnancy or whether their circulation is compromised. During pregnancy, the body creates up to 50% more blood and the heart must work up to 30% harder than usual to push this extra blood around the body and to the growing foetus. Swollen feet, dizziness, fatigue, and varicose veins are all pregnancy ailments that are a result of poor circulation. TheRY graduated compression leggings were also designed to help with these side effects through increased circulation.

In addition, it has been found that blood circulation can be negatively affected if sitting or remaining sedentary for 4 hours or more a day[3]. So, whether sitting at a desk, or standing all day for work, or heading off on a road trip, flight, babymoon, or even just staying at home and bingeing the latest series on TV, blood circulation can be compromised. Some extra help may be needed to help improve circulation and keep maternal blood flowing through adequately to baby.

Studies have found graduated compression[4] with a pressure ratings above 10mmHg can help improve blood flow[5]. TheRY graduated compression leggings and socks are TGA approved and are 15-20mmhg moderate medical grade compression.

TheRY is disrupting the world of support maternity leggings, crafting leggings that care for both mother and baby’s health. The Saviour Maternity Legging redefines what mothers should expect from their leggings and provide for the best conditions for their unborn baby’s development. Poor circulation and deficient blood flow has important health outcomes for both mother and baby and should not be ignored.

TheRY also partners with organizations that support maternal health with charities making a difference like Send Hope Not Flowers, whose mission involves preventing unecessary death during childbirth.

The collection of compression leggings and socks is developed using compression expertise from medical science and years of expertise in fabric development. TheRY was established by serial entrepreneur Clyde Davenport and compression expert Cindy Liu. Both had extensive insight and hands-on experience in researching and developing compression products to improve athletic performance with leading international sportwear brand 2XU. They realised the scientific approach used for fabric and garment innovations in sports, could also be applied to the maternity space to bring numerous benefits to expectant mothers and their babies. TheRY supports charities that work to prevent unnecessary maternal deaths.

[4] Graduated compression is engineered to gently exert pressure to the limbs. Graduated compression leggings exert a higher amount of compression at the ankle and decreases the level of compression up the leg. The constant pressure gradient helps improve venous return. TheRY compression leggings are TGA approved and are 15-20mmhg moderate medical grade compression.
