Announcing the launch of Andromeda, a first of its kind IoT Tracker with direct to satellite connectivity
Announcement posted by INCYT 16 Sep 2022
Eveleigh, NSW: INCYT, the award winning product brand from Sydney based design house, LX, announces the latest addition to its ecosystem of tracking and sensing devices, Andromeda. This rugged, battery powered device is a new concept in tracking, with its unique four way, hybrid communications capability that includes WiFi, Bluetooth, Cellular (LTE-M) and direct to satellite, with the latter delivering failsafe global coverage when out of terrestrial coverage.
Andromeda has numerous applications across industries including shipping and logistics, construction, asset and fleet tracking and mining. With the ability to accurately and reliably report location across land, rail and sea even in cellular ‘dark spots’, Andromeda is making tracking accessible at scale without the need for power hungry traditional satellite connectivity.
The device was developed under INCYT by the engineering team at LX, with the satellite connectivity component provided by Global communications firm, Myriota. Speaking about the addition of Andromeda to the tracker range, INCYT CEO Adam Schindhelm said,
“Myriota was an obvious choice as the leader in ultra low power, satellite connectivity designed specifically for the internet of things. We could see there was a challenge in the tracking industry where current options rely on LTE-M or more costly methods that often require external power. We wanted to build a tracker that could be retrofitted to powered and unpowered assets alike, and give reliable reporting even in remote areas like mine sites or across rural Australia. Working in collaboration with the Myriota team, we think we’ve achieved something really special in Andromeda, and it opens up so many opportunities for businesses.”
Myriota CEO Ben Cade echoed those statements, saying,
“Myriota would like to congratulate the INCYT team in delivering a game changing upgrade to the tracking industry. Through partner discussions we know up to 80% of loss scenarios happen in the 20% of locations outside reliable terrestrial connectivity. Add in rural and maritime and we find that over 90% of the globe has no reliable IoT connectivity. With Andromeda, this gap will get a whole lot smaller.”
Built and tested against the extremes of climate in Australia, Andromeda is designed to last, can be deployed in minutes and has global satellite and multi-band LTE-M capability, making this a ‘born global’, true ‘track anywhere’ device. It is commercially available for purchase from September 16, 2022.
