Noble to lead NITV

Peter Noble has joined NITV as the new general manager, effective 2 November. The new role will have him oversee the network’s daily operations, from programming to acquisitions. He will also aid in the development and expansion of SBS’ Indigenous materials. Noble had been a freelance creative consultant for most of 2021. He previously spent 13 years with Disney, first as senior original programming manager in Europe, then moved back to Australia to assume director-level roles in talent/production, content services, and brand/creative. Chatfield comes to LiSTNR

Southern Cross Austereo podcast platform LiSTNR has landed hosting rights for celebrity Abbie Chatfield and her podcast, It’s A Lot. The agreement will see her start running new episodes of the show starting 5 December, with LiSTNR head of original content Sam Cavanagh as her producer. She will also collaborate with SCA on a new series that’s exclusive to LiSTNR, which will premiere next year. For the meantime, Chatfield is committing to finish other obligations before going to SCA. She gained a strong following with her appearance on The Bachelor Season VII, hosting Love Island Australia spinoff show Afterparty, and her podcast tackling a wide range of issues.  “LiSTNR is determined to work alongside Australia’s biggest, brightest and best audio creators, and we’re so excited that Abbie is joining our rapidly expanding suite of premium Australian talent,” said SCA chief content officer Dave Cameron

Weiner leaves Optus Sport

David Weiner is stepping down from the sports editor role at Optus Sport. He made the announcement in a tweet earlier today.  Weiner has been with Optus Sport since May 2018, being critical to the platform’s efforts to embrace social media alongside regular content production. He was also host of the GegenPod podcast and joined Optus Sport’s commentary teams for the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Nations League, FIFA Women’s World Cup, Copa America, and EURO 2020. The iD Collective agency has tapped new clients to work with.  One big addition is the Australian fashion brand Sportgirl. iD’s remit for the company will involve developing and executing a new key content program to generate more brand awareness for the holiday season. A team of on-brand creators is already in place for the campaign. “iD’s experience in the fashion category includes working with many iconic national and global brands. Carlon to lead 7SPORT

Tara Carlon has been appointed Seven Network’s new executive producer for 7SPORT, effective 25 October. The new role will have her oversee the channel’s digital and social strategies, programming, and operations, especially for major upcoming events such as the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.  Carlon has been with Seven since 2015 when she came aboard as associate producer for the network’s Wimbledon coverage. She later moved up to segment producer for Australian Open broadcasts, producing AFL Game Day, and senior producer for other 7SPORT shows.  “Tara has played a vital role in all of Seven’s sport production and digital strategies and we’re rapt to announce her appointment as executive producer – digital/sport. Longreach Leader out of action

Central west Queensland broadsheet Longreach Leader has officially closed operations. The Longreach Printing Co announced that the paper was forced to close down due to lower ad revenues and more weekly losses as a result of the pandemic, as well as no applicants coming on board when new job openings were advertised. However, they are considering a full restructure in case conditions improve to warrant reactivating the newspaper. As such, the Leader’s farewell issue was released on 15 October. Leader Group editor Morgan Burley has also stepped down as the Longreach Leader’s editor.  The Longreach Leader has been in circulation since 1923

Guardian introduces climate podcast

The Guardian Australia is discussing climate change through a new podcast show called “Australia V The Climate.” Running on the paper’s Full Story podcast platform starting 25 October, the five-part series aims to dissect Australia’s lacklustre treatment of the climate crisis over the past 30 years, based on the Guardian’s extensive reporting.  The content will include a reexamination of the warnings former Prime Ministers Malcolm Turnbull and Kevin Rudd have laid down about Australia being a focal point of the climate threat, and repeated ignorance of it under the sitting administration.  Guardian Australia environment reporter Graham Readfearn will host the podcast, collaborating with the paper’s environment desk and editor Lenore Taylor.  The series is billed to generate more public interest for the COP26 climate talks in Glasgow, Scotland, scheduled from 31 October to 12 November. The conference is being touted as the world’s last and best chance to hammer out
