Today’s Ten: Bangladesh continues to burn, remains deeply concerning
By Pradeep Damodaran in Media News on Wednesday, 07th August 2024 at 3:44pmEven as Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin had announced that Nobel Laureate and economist Muhammad Yunus would head the country’s interim government after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country, several parts of Bangladesh continued to burn with disturbing reports emerging that 24 people, including an Indonesian, were burnt alive when a mob set fire to a hotel owned by an Awami League (party headed by Sheikh Hasina) in Jashore.
Several temples, houses and shops belonging to the minority Hindu community were vandalised, women assaulted and a Hindu politician of Awami League was murdered as mobs went on the rampage in at least 27 districts of Bangladesh since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina, according to a Times of India report.
