Panecasio moves to NetflixANZ

Steph Panecasio has announced that she has been appointed Editorial Lead at NetflixANZ. Panecasio moves to the new role of leading the editorial team at Netflix from her most recent position as CNET editor for more than two years where she wrote and edited news and features across tech, science, culture and entertainment. Panecasio tweeted that she is kicking off in the new position by “talking about death” which is “one of her favourite things”.  She has held various editorial roles across networks including Seven Network, Finder, Pedestrian Group and more.  She was also a freelance copywriter for more than three years and an editorial intern at Signature Media, Mashable and The Hype at Oxygen360. Panecasio's appointment is effective immediately.   

Knott steps up at The SMH and The Age

Journalist Matthew Knott has been promoted to a new role as foreign affairs and national security correspondent for the Sydney Morning Herald and the Age.  Prior to that, he was a US correspondent for the mastheads covering the Trump administration, the 2020 presidential election, the US-China trade war and more.  Knott has been with the titles for more than a decade holding roles including the US correspondent and political reporter.  His other gigs include being a media editor at cricket.com.au and a journalist at The Power Index.  Knott will commence in his new role in late August.   

ABC appoints chief digital and information officer

ABC has announced the appointment of former Nine technology chief Damian Cronan to the role of chief digital and information officer. Cronan joins the broadcaster from his most recent position as chief information and technology officer at Nine and has a vast two decades of experience across various media organisations in chief technology officer roles including Nine MSN, Stan and Nine Network. ABC managing director David Anderson said that the team is looking forward to Cronan joining them.  “Damian will play a key role in the delivery of the ABC Five-Year Plan as we continue to transform to be the nation’s most trusted and valued digital content provider across all platforms,” Anderson said.  Cronan said that he is “honoured and humbled” to be appointed to head up the broadcaster’s digital unit.  “I’m excited to be given the opportunity to join David and the team and contribute to the ABC’s mission and future success,” Cronan said.  ABC’s acting chief

The Advertiser appoints investigations editor

Andrew Hough has been promoted to the role of investigations editor at The Advertiser.  In his new role, Hough will be covering a variety of issues including law and order, politics and general news.  Prior to his promotion, he was a senior journalist at the masthead covering the COVID-19 pandemic.  Hough is excited to take up his “absolute dream job” after more than 9 years of working as a senior journalist including 7 years in the UK.  He has held other journalism roles including home news reporter at The Telegraph for more than five years, UK correspondent for Reuters and a journalist at Evening Standard.  Hough began his career at The Advertiser as a journalist, working for more than three years.    

SCA announces regional appointments

SCA has announced new appointments to a raft of newly created content roles for Hit and Triple M stations and other regional networks.   Nathan Bongiovanni begins at Hit103.1 in Townsville as assistant content director and announcer from the Workday shift at regional Hit Network while Carley Whittington commences as Triple M workday announcer from Townsville’s Hit103.1 and Alicia Foster as the new Hit Queensland breakfast producer working on Hit Breakfast with Cliffo & Gabi. ABC News appoints NSW weather presenter

The ABC has announced the appointment of Tom Saunders as the new meteorologist and weather presenter for the NSW 7 pm news bulletin. Saunders takes over the role from Graham Creed who farewelled the broadcaster in February after having worked for 14 years.  Saunders said that he is excited to take up the opportunity of being a broadcast meteorologist on the 7 pm news, sharing his knowledge with the audience.  “It’s an honour to be given the responsibility to provide accurate, engaging reports as climate change increasingly shifts weather into having a critical role in people’s lives,” Saunders said.  “The weather is an endlessly fascinating topic and problem to solve because no two days are ever exactly the same – the forecast challenge is infinite.
