Time to get real about remote event presence

By Seamus Byrne in Media News on
COVID-19 has claimed a lot more scalps than just Mobile World Congress over recent days. GDC has lost many major vendors, and Facebook just called off its F8 conference. I'm scheduled to head to an event in San Francisco at the end of March, but I'm not entirely sure that will definitely go ahead either. The spread continues…
Of course, we've been encouraged to reduce our international travel if we want to get serious about environmental catastrophe. And every conference has a notorious 'con flu' phase afterwards where many, many people have caught *something* from *someone*. So why must we continue to gather in large groups to conduct professional events, launches and seminars?
The answer is obvious. Being there in the flesh makes us active participants. A conference call is a vastly different experience from being in the room. Our attention is focused and the pull of literally-anything-else is off the table. Physical presence is a com

Holmes bows out for emergency

By Jonas Lopez in Media News on

Lucy Holmes is excusing herself from working at 89.9 Light FM, for now.

She stated in a broadcast of the Lucy and Kel Show this week that she will undergo emergency surgery for endometriosis, the diagnosis of which she learned earlier this month.

Holmes claimed that the situation will put her out of action for quite some time, especially as she was hoping to have another child.

“I just want to keep everybody up to date because I really treasure this relationship on-air and I believe part of my job as an announcer is to be very authentic with you and let you know what is going on,” she said.

Player joins CRN as editor

By Phil Sim in Media News on
“Once a channel journalist, always a channel journalist.”
That was the simple response from Chris Player, when asked what drew him back into chronicling Australia's community of technology resellers and distributors. Player this week started with Next Media as editor of its IT business masthead, CRN, a role which represents his return back to full-time journalism and the technology channel.
Player previously spent more than three years at CRN’s primary competitor, ARN, before landing a marketing communications role in the channel itself, at security provider Seccom Global.
More recently, he’s freelanced as a copywriter, but the opportunity to return to his roots as an editor, was too good to pass up.
“There is nothing that substitutes for journalism, it gets in your blood and I can’t imagine myself doing anything else, right now.”
“And I’m really excited to be back in the chann

Five Star Kids and Holidays with Kids become one

By Jonas Lopez in Media News on

Travel magazine Five Star Kids (pictured) has been merged with Holidays with Kids, reported Mumbrella.

Parent company Signature Media announced this week that the merge calls for Five Star Kids to be rebranded as The Luxe Edit, a section of Holidays with Kids focusing on luxury family travel content.

The June-September 2020 edition of Holidays with Kids will be the first issue to carry the new section, and the Holidays with Kids website will also have an associated The Luxe Edit subsection. Current Five Star Kids subscribers will be offered the option to continue with Holidays with Kids or another Signature Media title.

The move is part of Signature’s 2020 strategic plans.

“Luxury travel is no longer the domain of the well-heeled. Many families save and plan to have high-end travel experiences and this extra content will inspire our Holidays with Kids readers with ideas for that trip of a lifetime This combination will deliver a full range of holiday options
