IFTPC warns against ‘extortion’, but critics say industry must own up

India’s film producers have drawn a line. The Indian Film and Television Producers Council (IFTPC) has warned it will take legal action against influencers who demand money to avoid negative reviews — behavior it calls outright extortion.
In a statement shared on Instagram, IFTPC said some influencers threaten smear campaigns unless they are paid, a trend members of the fraternity described as “the need of the hour” to tackle. The council claimed such practices are designed to sabotage a project’s reception and commercial viability.
Just a gimmick?
Actor, producer and film critic Kamal Rashid Khan (KRK) dismissed the IFTPC’s warning as little more than a gimmick.
