Workman signs on with The Aus

Alice Workman is now part of The Australian’s newsroom, as reported on Mumbrella.

NewsCorp Australia declined to reveal what her role will be at the paper. She was among the 11 BuzzFeed Australia employees who were made redundant last month as part of BuzzFeed’s global cutbacks.

She spent four years as Buzzfeed’s political editor.

Wave FM reshuffles brekky staff

Some of Wave FM’s hosts are being tasked for other shows, reported the Illawarra Mercury.

The management stated that breakfast show co-host Chris Lee is now tasked with afternoon hosting duties. Adam Straney will assume his spot alongside Jayde Tonta. Travis Winks also leaves the breakfast show to take on Wave’s primetime news.

Station GM Tony Williams said Straney emerged as the best pick in a recent search for candidates. He previously worked as executive producer with Wave’s The Hot Breakfast, presenter at Prime Radio, program director at Southern Cross Austereo, and handled marketing at Grant Broadcasters.

Conway joins Signature Luxury Travel & Style

Andrew Conway has been appointed executive editor of Signature Media publication Signature Luxury Travel & Style.

Under the new deal, Conway will work in the role for the rest of the year then become editor-at-large as he is relocating to northern NSW. Signature Media CEO/group editor Cathy Wagstaff will be his immediate superior as Signature Luxury Travel & Style’s editor-in-chief.

The signing is Conway’s first job since exiting Luxury Travel magazine as its founding editor last year. He won the Cruise Lines International Association’s 2018 Australasia Media Award for his contributions to the travel industry.

Vince takes on Triple M Footy gig

Bernie Vince is going into the commentator’s booth for Triple M Footy this season.

The former Adelaide Crows midfielder is part of Triple M Adelaide’s Saturday-morning show Dead Set Legends alongside Andrew Jarman and Greg Blewett. Their first assignment together is to cover Adelaide’s home game tomorrow against Hawthorn.  

“It’s a very funny and entertaining team, so if I can play some small roll in entertaining people then I’ll be happy. I’m probably looking forward to working with Billy the most! But I also owe a lot to JB, he gave me a start on both Triple M and Channel 9. He backed me in and now here I am, I can’t wait!,” said Vince, referring to The Rush Hour co-hosts James Brayshaw and Billy Brownless.

Eco Traveller is renamed

The popular travel blog Eco Traveller has been rebranded to VerdeMode.

Freelance journo and blog operator Linda McCormick stated in a Tweet that the time has come to switch after eight years as Eco Traveller.

Eco Traveller has been popular for featuring various destinations that have a particular focus on sustainable practices.

ARN tweaks Commercial management team

ARN’s national commercial leadership has been bolstered with new appointments.

The company announced that Nick Flood, sales director for ARN’s Melbourne office, has additional responsibilities as national direct sales director. He will be in charge of direct sales personnel in each local market.

Sam Harris is committed to joining ARN-Melbourne as its new agency sales director, effective May 2019, after finishing up affairs as client services director with Starcom Australia.

Over at ARN’s Sydney offices, a new national trading director position was also created, with Anthony Bartram slated to come in late next month, along with new national strategy director Lauren Joyce.

Bartram is currently wrapping up from a similar job at Ooh! Media, which he has held since January this year. Joyce is stepping down from Mamamia, where she’s spent the past three years in upper-level strategy planning positions.

Rainmaker Group buys Money Magazine

Finance publication Money Magazine has changed hands from Bauer Media to the Rainmaker Group.

Bauer Media ANZ CEO Paul Dykzeul said the company’s focus on specific consumer brands warranted letting go of others such as Money, which had been in the Bauer stable for 20 years. Rainmaker is setting up Money under its Financial Standard media umbrella.

Bauer Media’s last issue of Money will be for April 2019. Current Money editor Effie Zahos stays on with Bauer as its finance editor and financial literacy advocate, but magazine chairman and chief commentator Paul Clitheroe will shift to Rainmaker. Zahos aid with the transition effort alongside deputy editor Maria Bekiaris. Bekiaris, however, is exiting Bauer after the transition; she had been with the magazine since February 2001.
