GadgetGuy picks Shaw as new managing editor

By Craig Daveson in Media News on
Ray Shaw has been announced as the new managing editor of GadgetGuy today. He will commence the role on September 11 after returning from a holiday in Europe.
Speaking to Influencing, Shaw explained that he is excited to get stuck into some serious consumer technology reporting after covering a much broader array of topics for iTWire over the past few years.
The hustle of operating from a proper office again was also an attractive proposition after working solo for so many years.
“My role changed at the end of last year to consumer news editor and reviews editor, and that began to whet my appetite again for consumer news and reviews,” said Shaw.
“I was news editor before that for ACT and NSW, but I got the taste and I like it. There’s lot of toys to play with.”
As such, when GadgetGuy managing director Valens Quinn approached Shaw he said it was a marriage made in heaven and he jumped at the opportunity.
Outside of consumer reporting, Shaw has also been tasked with working to grow the GadgetGuy audience whilst managing the site itself and a stable of freelance writers.
On his time at iTWire, Shaw said that many of his highlights came from the enterprise-side and learning more about companies such as SAS, Veritas and Intel as well as attending “mind blowing” international conferences.
“You tend to think these are boring companies but they are not, SAS is just the most amazing organisation I think I’ve ever come across because of what it’s doing with big data and machine learning.”
On working with the PR community, Shaw said GadgetGuy would be releasing a comprehensive media kit in September which would cover all the bases, including exactly how best to get his attention with a press release.
Shaw also noted that personally, he would like to shine a spotlight on computer security messages as well as the nice things that consumer tech companies, such as charity and education programs.
Ray can be reached directly via his new address, but he urged PR staff to send all releases to so that they can be passed along to the right person for the job.
