Veteran journo Parnell to step away from journalism
By Tony Bosworth in Media News on Thursday, 17th April 2025 at 3:26pm
After three and a half years at the editorial helm of Nine's Brisbane Times, Editor Sean Parnell is preparing to say goodbye to the news outlet and hello to taking on a new challenge and opportunity outside journalism.
Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Parnell said, “This newsroom has changed almost as much as Brisbane in that time. We’ve established new roles, experimented with different forms of story-telling, welcomed new staff, said goodbye to others, celebrated births and parenthood, mourned the death of a colleague, and strived to cover as much as we can of the vibrant, layered and beautiful city we call home.
“Above all else, we’ve sought to engage with our readers – our community – to serve their interests and satisfy their news and information needs. Since our 2023 relaunch, BT has experienced consistent subscription growth (no easy feat for an editor!) and our creative social media team has connected us with even more people.

The two-hour hearing of around 100 petitions in a packed courtroom saw Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, heading a three-judge Bench, refer to the communal violence in West Bengal over the 2025 Act as “very disturbing”, reported Krishnadas Rajagopal for The Hindu.
During the hearing, the Chief Justice went on to propose a three-point interim order to “balance equities” on all sides in the case. Firstly, he suggested that properties already declared waqf by courts need not, for the time being, be de-notified or treated as non-waqf properties. These would include properties categorised as ‘waqf-by-user’ or waqf by long usage without forma

Tasting Tokyo
Two potentially gripping TV programs coming up this next week, when the ABC’s Four Corners speaks to an Australian secret service agent who spent years inside extremist groups, and Foreign Correspondent goes to Tokyo for a meal or two.
Four Corners’ The Agent Inside sees investigative reporter Sean Rubinsztein-Dunlop talk to an ex-ASIO agent who’s broken cover to talk about years spent inside extremist circles.
In the Four Corners exclusive, the former ASIO agent reveals how a resurgent Islamic State (IS) network is radicalising Australian teens and plotting violence.
He exposes the network’s links to a global web of terrorist leaders.
The agent spent years inside extremist circles, helping authorities thwart attacks and stop IS terrorists.
Now, with teenage terrorism and hate crimes on the rise in Australia and around the world, he’s stepping out of the shadows to sound the alarm, says the ABC.
And on a lighter note, another of the ABC’s heavy hitt
